Second meeting of EUSALP Action Group 9 Energy

EUSALP AG 9 meeting
On October 10th 2016, the second meeting of the Action Group on Energy of the European Macro-Strategy on the Alpine Space took place in Bolzano. Representatives of the Alpine Regions worked on the core themes of EUSALP Action Group 9, which is responsible for implementing the EU action plan for the Macrostrategy and for making the Alpine Space a model region for energy efficiency and renewable energies. Representatives of the European Commission, the Alpine Convention, the WWF and CIPRA also participated in the session.

EUSALP provides an opportunity for seven countries, resp. 48 regions, to coordinate alpine issues transnationally and to exchange expertise. Main issues of EUSALP are economic growth and innovation, mobility and connectivity, as well as environment and energy. Action Group 9 especially focuses on the last two points and therefore contributes to the EU’s 20-20-20 goals: 20% less energy consumption, 20% increase in energy efficiency and a 20% share of renewables in the energy mix. In the next years, the Action Group will work intensively on potentials of the expansion of renewable energies on the Alpine space. The building and economic sector offer further opportunities for energy savings; furthermore, smart grids in the alpine region are to be fostered and locally supported by energy management systems. This way, effective climate protection is combined with economic innovation. The detailed working plan of the Action Group will be presented to the European Commission at the end of the year.
